Energy Management Innovation for power intensive industries
SnerpaPower is a leading technology provider in the power sector with the goal of reducing electricity costs for green industries.
Íris Baldursdóttir is the founder and CEO of SnerpaPower, an innovative company that aims to increase the competitiveness of energy-intensive industries in the renewable electricity system. “SnerpaPower is a leading technology and innovation company in the electricity market,” explains Íris.“We strive to increase the competitiveness of energy-intensive industries in a renewable power system. We have developed and are operating a software that reduces electricity costs for companies by automating decision-making and optimizing their flexibility provision towards the electricity market.” Íris adds that the goal is twofold: on the one hand, to increase the competitiveness of power intensive industries, and, on the other hand, to support the energy transition. “With SnerpaPower’s solution, users can even sell electricity back to the grid, thus reducing peak loads. This creates savings for the companies themselves but also for society as a whole. This is an example of how sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand.”
Informed Decisions in a Complex Environment
“We work with all those who use a lot of electricity in their operations, whether they are directly connected to the transmission system or a distribution company. These are companies that have usually set ambitious sustainability goals but struggle with a complex environment when it comes to energy purchases and daily electricity consumption. The market is incredibly complex, and the software enables them to make quick and informed decisions and respond quickly to disruptions in operations.”
Íris says the software processes data automatically and in real time.“We base the solution on live data streams and predictive models that are customized for each user. Companies that operate 24/7 need reliable plans and quick response capabilities, otherwise deviations can be costly. We have seen examples of deviation costs being reduced by 30 to 60% with SnerpaPower software, which is a huge savings. Companies tell us time and time again that this completely changes the entire energy management.”
According to Íris, the software also has a direct impact on the environment. “The better large users are at their energy purchases and usage, the less waste there is in the system. They also leave more electricity for society. The software also reduces the need for backup power by activating user flexibility. The entire system becomes more efficient and more usable.”
Competitiveness and sustainability go hand in hand
Asked about SnerpaPower’s vision for the future, Íris says they are looking at both continued development at home and growth abroad.
“We are making competitiveness and sustainability go hand in hand. The market is changing rapidly and we need to respond to it with new solutions. We are already starting to enter markets in the Nordic countries and elsewhere inEurope where the need is enormous.”
She specifically mentions cooperation with the Norwegian electricity system operator Statnett and the largest distribution companies in Norway. “Norway is facing great challenges. Businesses are calling for more electricity, but the power system is reaching its limits. That is why they are looking for new ways to make better use of the infrastructure that has already been built. That is why SnerpaPower’s solution has been chosen for its unique offering.
